It may be difficult for outsiders to understand, but precisely because progress is so limited in the CPU water-block market, signs of life from its established veterans attract considerable attention. Rarely have we received as much feedback on a teaser image as we did after the Heatkiller V was first spotted in the PCGH editorial office. Watercool's results meet the high expectations; only fans of the traditional copper-and-stainless-steel Heatkiller appearance might find the test winner lacking. Thermal Grizzly had raised similar expectations. Roman "der8auer" Hartung and numerous former EKWB employees combining their renowed cooling expertise with a production budget and level of ambition that appear almost limitless? What could possibly go wrong? We were rather puzzled when our measurements showed, that most of this potential has been invested into appearance with cooling performance taking a secondary role. Aquacomputer is the beneficiary, with the Kryos Next claiming its fifth podium finish and fourth PCGH award. The lesson: water cooling may appear expensive initially, but it can provide satisfaction for many, many years.
