Doom: The Dark Ages (PCGH Tech Review) has been delighting shooter fans since May 2025. The game offers various expansive environments, insane weapons, and hordes of demonic enemies. This stylish bloodbath is powered by id Tech 8, which has always been known for its high frame rates. Now, with the release of Revelations —a major expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages—it's reason enough for us to re-evaluate its performance a year later. Which graphics cards and processors deliver smooth frame rates? We put 30 CPUs and 33 GPUs to the test.
Doom: The Dark Ages - Revelations (DLC) introduces new levels as well as new demons and secrets for the main campaign. Alongside the expansion's release, the free "Ripatorium 3.0" update will be available to all owners of Doom: The Dark Ages. This arena mode will feature significantly deeper customization options, improved passcode generation, and savable presets. Doom: The Dark Ages - Revelations launches on July 7, 2026, and costs around 20 euros when purchased separately. The upgrade to the Premium Edition of the game costs around 35 euros. Owners of the Premium Edition or the Collector's Bundle will receive the expansion at no additional cost. Revelations is available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 and can be played via Steam, Battle.net, and the Microsoft Store. The main game is also currently part of Xbox Game Pass and supports Xbox Play Anywhere.
Since its release, Doom: The Dark Ages has received several updates, and graphics card drivers have also improved. However, the underlying technology hasn't changed, which is why we'll move straight to the CPU and GPU benchmarks. If you're interested in the (fascinating) inner workings of id Tech 8, we highly recommend our original technical review of Doom: The Dark Ages.
