[PLUS] Hynix's secret heroes: What makes SK Hynix's H-Dies so special for RAM tuning? [English]
We are optimizing SK Hynix H-Dies, chips that have flown under the radar until now and turned out to be fascinating. AMD's new Ryzen 5 7500X3D serves as the foundation and driving force.

Long-time PCGH readers know Hynix RAM chips from previous tuning articles, including RAM tuning for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or the Hynix A-Dies documented in the Ryzen 9 9950X3D tuning diary. With the friendly support of the Red BIOS Rebellion Team, we present an exceptional RAM kit today. It is a Patriot kit rated for DDR5-6400, CL32 at 1.40 volts, with the designation PVV532G640C32K. What the heatspreader hides are the chips themselves. Various tools identify them as SK Hynix H-Die. To find out what this is all about, we spoke with Johnny Preston, DRAM Product Manager at Patriot. In this article, which focuses primarily on analyzing the H-Dies, we include benchmarks that illustrate the role these RAM chips could play in the future. Since we obviously need a test system, the memory is installed on an ASRock X670E PG Lightning paired with an AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D. The graphics card is an RTX 5090. The results can therefore be understood as tuning for the Ryzen 5 7500X3D, though the main focus remains on the SK Hynix H-Dies.
The mysterious H-Dies from SK Hynix
The DDR5 ICs known as H-Dies are closely related to the regular A-Dies from SK Hynix, but they carry their own product designation for several reasons. Hynix differentiates its chip families not only by physical structure but also by validation profile, quality targets, and roadmap classification. A-Dies represent the first standardized 1 G×8 generation in the single-rank segment, with electrical parameters, yield expectations, and frequency specifications defined in detail. Any chip that does not meet these requirements precisely cannot be labeled as an A-Die, even if the underlying silicon is nearly identical in architecture. H-Dies fall exactly into this category.
