  • PCGH Review: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 versus Q6600 and Phenom X4

von Marc Sauter - With the Q8200 Intel now offers a more or less affordable quad-core CPU, too. We check how well the processor is doing when compared to similar priced competitors.

Intel quad-core processors still are a luxury commodity: While AMD's Phenom X4 is slowly but surely getting close to the 100 Euro area Intel's cheapest Yorkfield based quad-core in the form of the Core 2 Quad Q8200 costs almost 170 Euro. No the question arises, if it makes more sense to choose the phase-out model Q6600, which is available for about 145 Euros. Or is a dual-core of the same price level, like the E8400 for 130 Euros, the better solution for gamers - and what about AMD, who's Phenom top model X4 9950 Black Edition costs only 145 Euros, too?

We put the Q8200 and its competitors to the test: three games, Cinebench R10 and the CPU test of 3DMark Vantage.

Please note: The Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 is the first processor of the 8000 series with four cores. 2.33 GHz clock speed are the result of 333 megahertz FSB and a multiplier of 7. But in contrast to the Q9000 series the Q8200 has only 4 MiByte L2 cache.
