Systemanforderungen für WoW Cataclysm sind da: World of Warcraft: Cataclysm erscheint bekanntlich am 7. Dezember mit neuen Hardware-Voraussetzungen. Doch wie ändern sich die Systemanforderungen durch die geänderte Technik? Und sind sie realistisch? (Thilo Bayer, 19.10.2010)

Das dritte WoW-Add-on Cataclysm erscheint bekanntlich am 7. Dezember. Blizzard hat nun die finalen Systemanforderungen für World of Warcraft: Cataclysm veröffentlicht, die wir mit den Hardwarevoraussetzungen des letzten Add-ons, Wrath of the Lich King, vergleichen. Der WoW-Entwickler hat demnach vor allem die Anforderungen an die Grafikkarte und ist beim Arbeitsspeicher mit den Zeichen der Zeit gegangen. Auf dem Papier klingen die meisten Anforderungen human (bis auf die 25 GByte Festplattenplatz), bei den Prozessoren bleibt Blizzard schwammig.

Allerdings sind diese offiziellen Angaben nur die halbe Wahrheit. Nach unseren Messungen reicht die genannte Hardware nicht aus, um WoW Cataclysm wirklich flüssig spielen zu können. Allen WoW-Spielern, die bei der Beta Probleme mit den Hardwareanforderungen hatten, sollten deshalb die kommende PCGH Premium 12/2010 abwarten. Dort erklären wir ausführlich, mit welcher Hardware man wirklich ein ruckelfreies Spielerlebnis in den neuen und alten Gebieten hat.

Hier noch mal was zum Thema:

WoW is still a single threaded application. 5 years ago when WoW launched, multi-CPU systems were just starting to emerge. Changing WoW to a multi-threaded application (able to natively make use of multiple CPUs) would require a complete re-write of the game code. While that may happen in the distant future, I do not believe our development team has any immediate plans to do this.

So to answer the question of how many CPUs WoW will actively use, it will run its primary thread on a single processor and offload sound and other minor threads to additional processors, but to a much more limited extent.

But you will also see some gain from multiple CPUs if you run other programs in the background, such as Ventrillo/Team Speak, web browsing, and of course Windows itself, as those can be handled by CPUs that aren't processing the game client.

Was ist denn seit Diablo 2 rausgekommen was nicht gut war von Blizzard?
Diablo 1 hatte diese Details Blut und Feuer und Gewalt.
