Windows 7: Microsoft optimizes for Netbooks
Currently most vendors equip their Netbooks with Windows rather than Linux and Microsoft wants to increase the market share with Windows 7.
Brad Brooks, Corporate Vice President for Windows Consumer Product Marketing, thinks that the term Netbook is associated to certain expectations, but actually those devices are just portable PCs. Therefore they are usually running quite well with Windows. According to Brooks, Microsoft was able to increase the market share from ten to 80 percent in the last year.
Windows 7 will be optimized so that every version of Microsoft's forthcoming operating system will run on Netbooks. Besides boot and shut down time the energy management has been enhanced. Brooks didn't give any details but there are said to be improvements in matter of media capabilities, stability and security.
