Windows 7 is on sale - 177 million licenses until end of 2010
Today Windows 7 is officially launched. The new operating system has been one of the most important IT topics in 2009 and surly will be for the rest of the year.
Today Microsoft officially releases Windows 7 in 14 languages. 20 additional language versions will follow on October 31, 2009. The new Microsoft operating system is supposed to set new standards in matters of usability, performance, speed and security and will introduce innovations in the areas of multimedia solutions and technologies like Multitouch.
Windows 7: Versions
Customers can choose between several versions of Windows 7. The most important versions are Windows 7 Home Premium which is intended for private use and offers entertainment features like the Windows Media Center, Windows 7 Professional which in addition brings all features necessary for a effective business use and Windows 7 Ultimate with enhanced security features and the flexibility to work in different languages. For big companies Microsoft also offers Windows 7 Enterprise which is available via volume licenses.
Windows 7: Successful market entry
The pre-sale of Windows 7 already proved that Microsoft scored big time with the new operating system. In the survey "The Economic Impact of Microsoft's Windows 7, Worldwide” the market research institution IDC expects that about 177 million Windows 7 licenses will be sold worldwide until the end of 2010.
Windows 7: Successful Beta phase
It seems like Microsoft did several things right during the development of Windows 7: The open beta program has been quite successful and help users to improve the operating system. Eight million people have participated in the worldwide beta program of Windows 7. Furthermore product and usage data of millions of PCs in more than 200 countries and regions have been analyzed in order to get a better impression of the users' behavior. In addition more than 16000 online interviews about windows 7 have been made.
Windows 7: Is Multitouch the new trend?
With the new input technology Multitouch customers can use more than one finger to operate touch sensitive displays - mice or keyboards are not required. It is also possible to file faster through music and videos in the Windows Media Center, what brings entertainment and the usage of digital media to a new level. After all Windows 7 is prepared for Cloud Computing and offers many additional features like Windows Mail and Windows Photo Gallery, which have been part of the operating system up to now, for free. Appropriate displays are already advertised by the manufacturers. This could be a new market opened with Windows 7.
Windows 7: Focus is on families
Microsoft predicts that the usage of the PC in all-day family business will increase, if it is possible to communicate and play games over connected systems. This is a point where windows 7 is intended to make the usage easier. For families Microsoft also offers the so called Family Packs. With this limited offer Windows 7 can be installed on up to three systems in a household.
