Download: Truecrypt 6.1a - Safe data encryption
The new version 6.1a of the open source data encryption tool is available for download on PCGH.
Important documents, private mails or embarrassing pictures: Everyone has files and data not intended to be seen by other persons. Truecrypt helps you to keep your secrets. The Free open source program uses highly secure encryption algorithms, like AES. With those Truecrypt creates a data container that is integrated to the Windows Explorer as a normal drive - as long as the program is running and the safe is opened you have access to the files. You even can secure the system partition.
The decryption of the data is solely done in the RAM if you access the files. So there never are unpacked files stored on the hard drive - there isn't a more secure method. Furthermore this approach doesn't cost much performance so the access to the encrypted files isn't noticeably slower.
If you want to you can use a so called keyfile in addition to the classic password. Someone who doesn't has the right password and the right file, cannot open the Truecrypt container. The software can create a keyfile with random data, too.
What do you think about data encryption? Do you use Truecrypt or similar programs yourself? Feel free to give your opinion in the comments.
