Download: Final version of Picasa 3 released by Google
The Google software is now available for download in the final version. The search engine provider removed the beta tag of Picasa 3.
Picasa 3 has been developed by Google and is a piece of software for managing pictures and videos. In early 2008 the beta version had been released, and now the company delivers the final version. It is supposed to run faster and more stable. New features, like face recognition on pictures, have been added, too.
Google bought this technology from the company Neven Vision in 2006. The face recognition checks if for example the expression changed on different pictures. A Gabor Wavelet Transformation is used for calculating a pattern. This pattern is only 1 KiByte big and can be compared to other patterns to check for similarities.
This enables Picasa to find all pictures in an album that show a certain person. The face recognition is only available online and has to be activated by the user.
You can download Picasa 3 from Google or, as a registered user, from our servers.
