Tom Clancy's HAWX: Comparison between DirectX 9 and DirectX 10
The demo version of HAWX supports, like the final game, DirectX 10. Compared to DirectX 9 the newer API offers a better visualization.
Tom Clancy's HAWX aligns itself with the other games that support DirectX 10. With the Vista API the following additional graphics effects that are not available under DirectX 9:
• High Quality Shadows Map for the plane of the player
• Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO)
• Sun Shafts (God Rays)
• Soft Particles for effects and clouds
If you own an up-to-date Radeon graphics cards those effects are even calculated faster with DX 10.1. The comparative screenshots below reveal the visual difference of HAWX running in DX9 and DX10. Soon we will also delver benchmarks that deal with the problem of how much DirectX 10 and DirectX 10.1 are affecting the performance.
