Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay - Old and new engine in comparison
In Escape from Butcher Bay Richard B. Riddick already escaped from the namesake high-security prison anno 2004. In the new edition of 2009 he repeats his escape with better graphics. PC Games Hardware shows how the graphics has changed within the past five years.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was released for PC in December 2004 and had phenomenal graphics: Sharp textures with bump maps, soft shadows, an authentic illumination and very realistic characters made Escape from Butchers Bay a delicious and atmospheric treat.
Five years later a graphically tuned version of Escape from Butcher Bay is enclosed in the chronologic successor The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. There are no soft shadows anymore but excessively used post processing in the form of depth of field, motion blur as well as ambient occlusion. Though the heavily flickering textures have more high lights, they are slightly fuzzier but the characters (among others Vin Diesel and Xzibit) present much more details.
