56 games, which gamers and press judged very differently
Not always, the press and the public share their opinion wether a game is good or bad. Ideally, both sides draw the same conclusion. But there are extreme cases, where the opinions diverge most significantly. PC Games Hardware presents to you some hardship cases.
If the press' and the public opinion about a game differ too strongly, there's always a lot to discuss. Wasn't there enough time for the testing editor to really get into the game? Have bugs remained unspotted? Did patches noticeably increased the gaming experience shortly after the test? Do users grade games badly without actually testing the game they blemish?
Presumably, there are lots of reasons for a game to be judged unequally. In the gallery you will find a bunch of games which have been praised by the magzines and mocked by the public. Our data is based on Metacritic that collects professional and user reviews alike. The games you will find here have been rated 80 per cent or better by the press.
The most outstanding example might be GTA 4. The Press honors it with 90 per cent whereas the gamers mock it with ludicrous 48 per cent. That's because the press concentrates on the game as such and maybe the engineering. Gamers assess the game as a whole product. And since we remember the annoying copy protection from Rockstar and the insanely high system requirements, a lot of the series' fans were really disappointed when the game hit the shelves.
