Games of the year 2008: Strategy games
With Spore and Sins of a Solar Empire two games were released in 2008 that couldn't be any different in matters of copy protection. Furthermore there had been gems like Civilization IV or the new C&C title. We recapitulate.
In order to make the decision easier, we didn't just rely on our own impressions and experiences, but also took a look at metacritics.com. This site gathers ratings and critics about games and thus forms a good base for investigations about the overall popularity of a game.
Among the top scorers is the add-on Twilight of the Arnor for Galactic Civilizations II followed by the copy protection free Sins of a Solar empire. With copy protection came Will Wright's Spore, which is regarded to be one of the most frequently downloaded games ever. Next is another add-on - Civilization IV: Colonization. With Red Alert 3 and the add-on Kane's Wrath two games of the Command & Conquer series can place themselves among the top strategy games of 2008. King's Bounty is one of the turn-based games n the ranking. A Warhammer 40k game also got into the top 10 - Soulstorm introduced two new races to the series. Finally there are the innovative titles Worldshift and Empire at War.
