Operation Flashpoint 2 - Dragon Rising: First own screenshots in 2,560 x 1,600 with 4x SGSSAA
According to trailers and screenshots Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising offers very good graphics. PC Games Hardware presents their high-res screenshots of the first mission.
Operation Flashpoint 2 - Dragon Rising: Ego-Engine
Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising is based upon Codemaster's Ego-Engine which is used for the upcoming Colin McRae Dirt 2 as well. While the latter will get a DirectX 11 update including Tessellation the Ego version of Operation Flashpoint 2 bases on DirectX 9. The cross platform engine offers dynamic weather (no rain) as well as day and night changes and several particle and smoke effects. Long distance view and density of vegetation are convincing. However, some objects have too few polygons, clipping errors often appear and many textures are fuzzy. The rival game ArmA 2 looks much better in our opion.
The pictures in our gallery (the first mission of our review version) were made on a system with Radeon HD 5870 with maximum details in 2,560 x 1,600 and 4x Sparse-Grid Supersampling AA. For the most part the framerate was beyond 25 fps - Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising doesn't seem to be demanding concerning hardware.
