Developers fired - The end for the Flight Simulator series?
According to media reports the complete development team of the Flight Simulator series has been laid off. Is this the end for one of the most long-lasting PC game series?
The expected redundancies, which had been hinted at during the latest financial reports, affect the ACES Studios and other subsidiaries. Gamasutra reports that a big part of the ACES employees has been discharged, among them the full developer team of the Flight Simulator series. The ACES Studios are currently working on Microsoft's Train Simulator 2 and Flight Simulator XI was supposed to be under development, too.
IF the reports about the dismissal of the Flight Simulator team are correct, the future of the series is more than questionable. The first Flight Simulator was released in 1982, while the last parts where Flight Simulator X (in 2006) and the add-on Acceleration (in 2007). Thus the Flight Sim series is one of the most long-lasting PC game series ever. In our gallery you can find screenshots of the most important flight sim games.
An official statement from Microsoft has yet to be given.
