On the official Hellgate: London website Publisher Namco Bandai announced, that the servers will be shut down on January 31, 2009. Until the final shut down date, the use of the Hellgate: London servers will be free.
Hellgate: London tried to combine the fascinating principle of the classical Diablo with a new Science Fiction setting, but the game wasn't successful. Several wrong decisions finally resulted in the closure of Flagship Studios that had been founded by Bill Roper and some other former Blizzard employees.
