Serious Sam: The Second Encounter - Maxed out game classic
Sam "Serious” Stone is back: Not only as a remake of the first part, but also in "Ultra HD” at PC Games Hardware. We maxed out the graphics of The Second Encounter.
Since the beginning of the Century Serious Sam stands for pure action. The games have been so popular that the developers of the Croteam just released Serious Sam HD, a remake of the first part "The First Encounter”. Besides better graphics there hadn't been any changes.
The release of the remake animated PC Games Hardware to revive the second part in "HD” (High Definition). In order to do so, we reactivated The Second Encounter, which was still slumbering on our hard drive. To get the best possible graphics, we didn't only use the Extreme Quality Scripts from our colleagues of the 3D Center, but also tweaked the resolution: The pictures in our gallery have been taken at 2560 x 1600 pixels with 8x Sparse Grid Supersampling Anti Aliasing plus 16:1 Anisotropic Filtering on a Radeon HD 5750. Although we had to overclock the latter one to 900/2700 MHz, the framerate nevertheless dropped below 30 fps in big battles - sometimes even below 20 fps.
Back in 2001 the, for modern standards antiquated, technology delivered a huge draw distance, nice surfaces and due to multiple texture layers and the Quality Script even Stencil Shadows. What do you think of the graphics? Tell us in the comments.
