Corsair XMS 3 TR3X6G1600C7 - Triple Channel Kit with new cooling pictured
Corsair sent us a package with the first DDR3 kit including their new heat spreader. The appropriate modules TR3X6G1600C7 are supposed to run with latencies of 7-7-7-20 in DDR3 1600 mode.
In comparison: New and old standard heat spreader for the XMS series
For the new heat spreaders Corsair does not use the purple sticker of the original XMS cooling plates anymore but rather combines black, white, silver and blue. The 3.2 centimeter height of the modules is comparable with its predecessor. The sticker provides all important information about the memory module: Our sample contains three modules with 2,048 MiByte each which are designed for DDR3 1600 operation and low timings of 7-7-7-20. A voltage of 1.65 V should be sufficient - so Intel's security requirements for memory controllers of Core i7 CPUs are not exceeded. In the future Corsair wants to use the current heat spreaders for all new XMS modules and resign from the old design.
Corsair has not revealed the price of the new kit TR3X6G1600C7 yet. But it is confirmed that the modules will offer a very good overclocking potential: In our test the Corsair kit ran stable with 850 MHz (DDR3-1700) and latencies of 7-7-7-20 at 1,65 Volt.
