Sony withdraws the PS3 firmware 2.40
Dailytech reports that the update doesn't just introduce some new features but also makes some problems. Those were, according to users, so intense that Sony intervened.
The new firmware version 2.40 added an in-game chat feature, called XMB (Xcross Media Bar). Additionally there was a trophy system, quite similar to the achievements (like for example with Half-Life 2: Episode 2), and the possibility to listen to your own music whle playing.
But for many PS3 owners, the update caused problems with the controller or even crashed the console. After the withdrawal of the version 2.40 from the servers, the Sony released a statement:
"In order to further assess the issue, we have temporarily taken the firmware offline for further testing. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.”
