In the very beginning of PC games, shadows were a no show. The baby steps were black pixels, without any dynamics, and blob shadows under the feet of characters. But shadows improve over the time, they become dynamic, per-pixel-based, soft and now characters cast even shadows on their own bodies.
To demonstrate the most important games in the history of shadow effects, we put together pictures from over 50 games. We start with Pong on the PC (obviously without any shadows) and end up with Duke Nukem Forever.
