Geforce GTX 280: Alienware announces 3-way SLI system
As one of the first vendors Alienware offers a system with optional Geforce GTX 280s
Alienware is not to do things by halves with the Area-51 ALX. Even the basic configuration got a Radeon HD 3870 X2, a 3 GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9650, two GiByte Corsair DDR3 memory and Nvidia Nforce 790i SLI Ultra motherboard. But the price is with about 4,600 US-Dollar equally high as the 3D performance.
The maximum configuration comes with an Core 2 Extreme QX 9770 with 4 GHz for each of the four cores and 4 GiByte Corsair Dominator DDR3 memory. Additionally the system has a 1,200 watt power supply that powers three Geforce GTX 280s in SLI mode.
This setup cost nearly 7,500 US-Dollar - without any special extras like a display of software (except Windows Vista Home Premium). If you follow the make-or-break philosophy then Alienware's Area-51 won't let you down. With all the available extras the system costs as much as a decent car: 16.136 US-Dollar.
