MSI Wind U100 Luxury - Quick PCGH review
Today the overhauled version of MSI’s Wind U100 arrived at our office. The most important improvement is the rechargeable battery pack that has been upgraded from 3 to 6 cells. This is said to deliver a noticeable benefit for the duration.
Optical difference between the new Wind and its predecessor are not really obvious – if you don’t take the color into account. At a closer look the bigger battery pack, which comes with 4,400 mill ampere (48.8 Wh), is noticeable. The “old” U100 had a pack with 2,200 mA/h (24.4 Wh), but it runs with the new accumulator, too. The U100 Luxury keeps up the “Reader’s Test” of Battery Mark 2.70 for 5H 20min – almost three hours longer than the predecessor. But this powerful battery pack has its price: The weight is increased from 1.14 kilogram to 1.28 kilogram.
On the inside MSI performed some fine tuning: The integrated WLAN unit supports the n-draft now. Bluetooth is still included, just like Intel’s Atom N270 (1.6 GHz), 1,024 MiByte DDR2 memory and 160 GByte hard drive capacity.
Conclusion: MSI Wind U100 Luxury
The direct elimination of the poor battery life makes the Wind U100 Luxury quite interesting. Apart from the MSI netbook only Dell’s Inspiron Mini 9 as well as Asus’ Eee PC 901 and 1000H reach a runtime higher than four hours.
