VIA wants to rough up the market with its C855 motherboard for netbooks and promises 1080p playback in connection with a VIA C7M processor.
Last week VIA announced the VX855 chipset for netbooks and ITX systems. Now there is more official information: VIA promises 1080p playback for netbooks with the Surfboard C855 - which has a VX855 - and a VIA C7M processor (1.6 GHz).
The motherboard can be built in 10 inch and 12 inch netbooks. Together with the specifications published by VIA the C855 might become a competitor for Nvidia Ion and Intel Atom. Richard Brown, Vice Marketing President, says that such devices will be perfect for multi-media entertainment.
The C855 will be able to administrate a maximum of 2 GiByte RAM and offers 10/100 MBit Ethernet 7.1 Audio via vinyl chip as well as DirectX 9 graphics via Chrome 9 IGP.
Now there are manufacturers needed who produce netbooks on the basis of this bundle and do not use the Intel platform instead.
