Nvidia Ion 2 coming in 2009
Ion 2: The new platform for netbooks and nettops is said to be released this year. Ion 2 is supposed to offer higher compatibility and performance.
It is common knowledge that Nvidia is already planning the successor of the popular Ion platform. Supposedly the Ion 2 will have twice as many shader units as the current version. Now Nvidia has confirmed to ship Ion 2 in 2209 - says Fudzilla. When this will happen exactly has not been revealed.
The new platform will support diverse CPUs. Possible candidates are of course Intel's Atom processors, but also VIA Nano and other low voltage devices. Future Intel processors that are based on a DMI interface instead of the classic FSB will apparently not be supported by Ion 2 - Intel and Nvidia have not yet settled their argument about the related licenses. PC Games Hardware will keep you up-to-date.
