MSI Wind: New BIOS enables easy overclocking
MSI released a new BIOS version for the Wind U100 netbook that fixes some bugs and also delivers a new and interesting feature.
After flashing the BIOS to version 1.09 the Atom N270 of the Wind can be overclocked by 8, 15 or 24 percent at the press of a button - two buttons actually since you have to press "Fn” and "F10”. The available video memory is increased simultaneously. All in all this is said to result in a performance boost of about 30 percent.
But besides this worthwhile feature, the new BIOS 1.09 also has its drawbacks. According to electricvagabond.com the noise of the fan, for example, is increased permanently with the new BIOS version - even if the system is not overclocked. Those who don't mind this can download the BIOS version (about 800 KiByte) from MSI's servers.
