News about Nvidia 2 and Intel's Pineview processors
Especially netbook fans might be interested to hear that Nvidia Ion 2 is not going to be a complete chipset and that Intel's Pineview CPUs have been rescheduled to January 2010.
New information about Nvidia's Ion 2 platform and the forthcoming Intel Pineview models has become available. While the new Nvidia product, in contrast to its predecessor, is now supposed to act more like a GPU, has the release of Pineview apparently been rescheduled to January 2010.
Primarily because of the integrated Northbridge functionality of the Intel Pineview PCUs Atom N450, N470 and D510 the Ion2 is not as planned going to offer full chipset features anymore. Thus the outdated graphics core of the Intel CPUs would be the most important reason for the introduction of the new Ion platform. Besides that it has now been unveiled that Acer is one of the first companies to offer computers based on Nvidia's Ion 2.
Digitimes furthermore reports that the first processor of the Pineview family, the Atom N450, will not hit the markets in 2009 anymore. Instead Intel forbids netbook producers to sell devices with the CPU before January 11, 2010. This would be right in time for the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2010 in Las Vegas.
