PCI Express: Future graphics cards to fill up to three slots
The PCI Special Interest Group released details about the future PCI Express 3.0. Accroding to them users will have to face real graphic monsters.
A system with a Triple SLI solution or even a Quad Crossfire approach with four dual slot cards, more or less fills every PC case following the ATX design. But the PCI SIG thinks of bigger things: Three slot graphic cards needing 300 watt. According to extremetech.com plans for this design have been introduced recently. Another innovation will be the new 8-pin (2x4) power connector. It will have a different design than the one in use at the moment and thus it will not be possible to use a 6-pin connector instead.
