Need for Speed: Shift gets Securom copy protection
No demo version but only a Securom DVD check for Need for Speed: Shift. The Internet connection mentioned in the system requirements is only necessary for online gaming.
Only recently the official system requirements of Need for Speed: Shift have been revealed and the question for the copy protection came up since the requirements also listed a Internet connection.
According to what Blue's News has learned from Electronic Arts you only need to be connected to the web if you want to play online and not as expected for DRM reasons. The game will have a Securom copy protection for the original media. So, permanent Internet connection is not required.
Furthermore it has been said that the demo version of Need for Speed: Shift, which was announced in April and was expected to become available before the full game hits the markets, will not be released. It seems like EA just didn't keep an eye out for the schedule. Shift will be released on September 15, 2009 for PC, PS 3 and Xbox 360.
