AMD's RS880 AM3 chipset with DX10.1 for Phenom II - CPUs available in Q3 2009
The RS880 is AMD's upcoming 55 nanometer chipset for the socket AM3 and Phenom II CPUs. Scheduled for the third quarter 2009, the RS880 will improve DirectX 10.1 performance and HD video acceleration with an UVD2 unit.
The graphics core of the RS880 chipset is said to be based on the GPU core RV620 and is provided with 40 Unified Shader ALUs and 4 texture units. The chipset will be connected to the Phenom II CPUs via hyper transport 3 and will be able to access monitors via HDCP protected interfaces for DVI, HDMI and display port. The RS880 will be connected with the I/O chips SB710 or the new SB800.
Certainly support for Hybrid CrossfireX will be integrated.
