Gigabyte EX58-UD4P: favorably priced X58 motherboard for Core i7
Upgrading to a Core i7 system often is hindered by high motherboard prices: most boards with the X58 chip cost more than 250 Euros. The Gigabyte EX58-UD4P on the other hand is available for about 220 Euros already. Today PC Games Hardware received a sample.
Like most X58 motherboards the EX58-UD4P has six memory slots and three slots for graphics cards. Thus you can utilize the Triple Channel mode of the Core i7 and use three Nvidia cards in 3-way SLI - the appropriate SLI and 3-way SLI bridges are included. The abbreviation "UD” in the name reveals that the EX58-UD4P is part of Gigabyte's Ultra Durable series. Two ounces of copper (about 56.7 grams) have been used for the voltage supply and ground in the motherboard layers. Usually only one ounce of copper is used. With the extra copper higher overclocking results and lower voltage converter temperatures are supposed to be possible. Like all modern Gigabyte boards the X58-UD4P also offers the Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced power saving technology.
The EX58-UD4P is already listed in some online shops and costs about 220 Euros. Only few X58 boards are cheaper like the Asus P6T and the Gigabyte EX58-DS4, but Gigabyte told us that the EX58-DS4 will phase out soon.
What do you think of the EX58-UD4P? Is the price adequate or still too high? Give your opinion in the comments.
