Another P55 motherboard from Gigabyte for Core i5 CPUS with SLI and Crossfire support
Like MSI Gigabyte is also advertising a P55 motherboard, labeled GA-IBP, with SLI and Crossfire support. Furthermore the board for Intel's forthcoming middle-class CPUs offers three graphics slots.
With how many PCI Express lanes those graphics card slots are linked is not specified. In contrast to MSI's G9P55-DC there is no additional chip that could deliver additional lanes. The P55 chip (North and Southbridge are not separated anymore) is placed under a flat heatsink. But since the board on display was a Revision 0.3 we expect the cooling to be adjusted until the final release. Furthermore the GA-IBP has a DVI connector and thus seems to be compatible to Core i5 CPUs with an integrated graphics unit. Accordingly there is "LGA 1156” for socket 1156 imprinted on the socket cover.
Like all the other P55 boards exhibited at the Cebit the GA-IBP has four memory slots for Dual Channel mode. Next to them there are diagnostic LEDs as well as PATA and Floppy connectors. Furthermore six angled SATA ports, two Gigabit LAN ports and buttons labeled Power, Reset and Clear CMOS are available, too. According to the description the "revolutionary design” is supposed to enable lower temperatures and better overclocking results. We expect this to be Gigabyte's Ultra Durable 3 technology with additional copper in the motherboard layers.
Gigabyte did not tell when the GA-IBP will become available. More details about the P55 chipset and Intel's new sockets can be found in the article: Intel P55 for Core i5: More details plus Die pictures and socket chaos.
