SLI now available on low-priced Gigabyte X58 motherboards by BIOS update
Gigabyte's socket 1366 motherboard EX58-UD3R only costs about 180 Euros and is therefore considerably cheaper than most X58 motherboards for Core i7 CPUs. The disadvantage: It only supports Crossfire and no SLI. With the latest BIOS F5 Gigabyte hands SLI support in later.
Many potential Core i7 customers refrain from buying most of the X58 motherboards due to their high prices. Cheaper alternatives are MSI's X58 Pro as well as Gigabyte's EX58-UD3R for about 180 Euro each. However, both models do not have the SLI license as many costly boards for more than 200 Euro do - they only support Crossfire. Thanks to the latest BIOS F5 the Gigabyte EX58-UD3R now supports SLI. Thus the low-priced X58 motherboard might be of interest for Nvidia loyal highend gamers.
The current BIOS of the EX58-UD4 also supports SLI.
