Asus Rampage II Gene: Retail version of the high-end X58 microATX board pictured
The Asus Rampage II Gene has reached PC Games Hardware. We got pictures of the retail version.
At the Cebit people could get an impression of the Asus Rampage II Gene and now PC games Hardware got a retail version of the microATX motherboard. With the Intel X58 chipset the Rampage II Gene is compatible to Intel's Core i7 processor series. With the combination of the small form factor and the socket 1366 the board enters direct competition with the DFI Lanparty JR X58-T3H6.
The Asus Rampage II Gene supports up to 24 GiByte DDR3 RAM in six memory slots and Triple Channel mode. Besides two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots, there is one PCI-E 2.0 x4 slot and one PCI 2.2 slot. Like other X58 boards the Gene supports AMD's CrossfireX and Nvidia's SLI. The high-end status is also emphasized by the SupremeFX X-Fi audio chip that is onboard. Drives can be connected via seven SATA, one e-SATA and one PATA connectors. The I/O back panel offers one PS2 (keyboard) port, one e-SATA port, one gigabit LAN port, six USB 2.0 ports, one Firewire port and connectors for 8-channel audio. Furthermore a Clear CMOS button and a S/PDIF port are available.
