Asus P6T Deluxe: Pictures and info of the X58 motherboard – SLI support confirmed
The X58 motherboards for the future Core i7 processors (codename: Bloomfield) are expected to be released soon. PCGH could take a closer look at the Asus P6T Deluxe.
A presentation of the X58 board reveals several new details about Intel’s new chipset and the Core 2 successor Nehalem. The P6T Deluxe has six memory banks – the integrated memory controller of the Nehalem supports Triple Channel. The new socket 1366 looks, except the number of pins, like the socket 775. It seems as if Push-Pins are the recommended way to fasten CPU coolers, again. The X58 Northbridge doesn’t to heat up too much, since a wide but comparatively flat cooler is enough.
The Asus P6T Deluxe has a CPU power supply with 16 phases. Two phases are said to be reserved for the memory controller of the CPU. Furthermore the board is said to support SAS (SCSI successor with SATA technology) and offer extensive overclocking features in the BIOS. Like the X48 board Rampage Extreme you can see and even adjust voltages and FSB clock with the small display LCD Poster.
The P6T Deluxe seems to be a high-end version already, but Asus is planning X58 board with even better equipment for the ROG series (Republic of Gamers). Those are said to have Nvidia’s NF200 chip – this would make SLI support almost certain. The NF200 offers additional PCI Express 2.0 lanes for the Nforce 780i SLI, too.
We expect to receive further information about Intel’s X58 from the Intel Developer Forum and the Games Convention. A test sample is expected to arrive at our office in some weeks.
