Intel DX48BT2: X48 motherboard Bonetrail 2 is discontinued
The X48 hadn't been Intel's most successful chipset for real: Too expensive for the small benefits compared to the P45. Intel now announced to phase out their X48 motherboard DX48BT2 (Bonetrail 2).
Intel has announced to discontinue the DX48BT2 X48 motherboard (also known as Bonetrail 2). The decision wasn't unexpected since the P45 chipsets are noticeably cheaper - but deliver almost the same performance - and a new high-end sector has been created with the X58.
The P45 is supposed to become the backbone of the LGA 775 motherboards while Intel will focus on the X58 in the high-end market and the forthcoming P55 chipset for the Core i5 family. The last orders for the DX48BT2 will be taken until June. The last shipments will roll out in September. Currently the Intel DX48BT2 is listed for about 235 Euros.
