Accelero Xtreme 4870 X2: New VGA cooler from Arctic Cooling
Arctic Cooling introduces a VGA cooler for AMD's dual GPU flagship. The Accelero Xtreme 4870 X2 is supposed to keep the Radeon card at low temperatures.
The Accelero Xtreme lives up to its name: With dimensions of 295 x 96 x 54 millimeters the colossus weights 680 grams. Both RV770 GPUs of the HD 4870 X2 come into contact with the copper plate via the already applied MX2 thermal grease. Eight heatpies transfer the heat to the aluminum fins which are cooled by three 92 mm fans - the overall cooling performance is specified with 320 watt. The fans are PWM controlled (1,000 to 2,000 rpm) and according to Arctic Cooling they reach a loudness of 0.5 only - even at maximal speed. During gaming the temperatures are said to be about 50 °C below the results of the HD 4870 X2's stock cooler and thus provide better overclocking capabilities.
According to Arctic Cooling the Accelero Xtreme 4870 X2 will become available in late March 2009 for about €54. Warranty is granted for six years.
