Seagate Barracuda 7200.12: Terabyte hard drive with two platters
Seagate's new Barracuda 7200.12 is characterized by a data density of 329 GBit per square inch.
Seagate wants to offer Barracuda 7200.12 hard drives with capacities of 500, 750 and 1,000 GByte. Thereby even the 1 TByte version is said to have only to platters. The cache of the Barracuda 7200.12 is 16 or 32 MByte big and the devices are connected via SATA II. Seagate promises a data transfer rate of up to 160 MByte/s.
The 500 GByte version is available for about 50 Euros says Golem. Currently there is no information about when the bigger versions will hit the mass market.
