Samsung Spinpoint M7 Enhanced: New notebook hard drive series announced
In late September Samsung's new Spinpoint M7 Enhanced will be released. The hard drives will be available with capacities from 160 to 640 GiByte.
Today Samsung has introduced a new 2.5 inch hard drive series. The Spinpoint M7 Enhanced devices have two platters and are supposed to offer a higher performance and energy efficiency than models of the M7 series. The flagship of the new series will be a 640 GByte big hard drive that has a data density of 516 gigabit per square inch. This would be an increase of 28 percent I comparison to the predecessor.
According to Samsung's Vice President of Storage Sales & Marketing, C.H. Lee, the new hard drives won't just offer higher capacities but also better durability and stability. The hard drives are supposed to resist hits of up to 900G if in idle mode and up to 400G when operating. Hard drives of the M7 Enhanced series have 8 MByte cache, are running at 5,400 rpm and have Samsung's default technology for noise reduction.
The M7 Enhanced series will hit the markets with capacities of 160, 250, 320, 500 and 640 GByte. The biggest model is supposed to cost about 109 Euros.
