Dell to cut XPS series or Alienware
It seems like Dell wants to restructure its array of product series. Reports indicate a combination of the XPS series and the Alienware brand.
Apparently Dell wants to discontinue the XPS series gaming brand. In 2006 the company bought Alienware and now apparently reroutes the effort of the gaming market to this brand. Dell's Markus Schuetz indicates that the transition will take several months, but didn't specify a date.
Different sources, some of them among Dell's component suppliers, are said to have indicated that Dell wants to close Alienware - until August 20 at the latest. So it isn't certain which of the two brnads, XPS or Alienware, will be discontinued, but apparently they will be merged into a combined gaming section as it has been indicated in the report.
Schuetz said: "It's like throwing the best of two worlds into one pot. . . .These [new] systems will blow you away, that's for sure."
Several weeks ago Dell received a large order from the European Union worth 63 million Euros.
