Internet Explorer 8 RC1 versus five competitors - browser benchmarks
Microsoft offers the Release Candidate 1 (RC1) of the Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP, Windows Vista 32 bit and Windows Vista 64 Bit. In a small comparison this version of the IE 8 doesn't reveal big advantages in matters of performance.
The first two Acid Tests are easily passed by the IE 8 RC 1 and the other browsers, but in the Acid 2 Test the Internet Explorer 8 triggers an error. The RC1 fails the test with only 20 out of 100 points.
In matters of memory usage the RC 1 of the Internet Explorer 8 is not very efficient. During our tests only five simultaneously opened websites result in a RAM load of 110 MiByte - almost 40 MiByte more than the previous IE 7.
The first Release Candidate of the Internet Explorer 8 is still slightly slower than the competitors and there isn't a noticeable performance advantage compared to the IE 7.
