Google layoffs: Sales and marketing reduced by 200 employees
Search engine monopolist Google will lay off 200 people working in the sales department. The manpower requirements in the sales and marketing organizations were misjudged and therefore the resources have to be readjusted to the arising costs.
The Google blog says that the sales and marketing department will be reduced by 200 people globally. Omid Kordestani, Google Senior VP, Global Sales and Business Development, confirmed that Google has misjudged the manpower requirements and will therefore undertake job cutbacks.
Growing as fast as it did the company has created uncontrolled growth within the organizational structures. That complicates the decision-making processes and thus slimming is necessary. Furthermore Google "over-invested in some areas in preparation for the growth trends we were experiencing at the time”, confesses Kordestani.
All affected employees have the chance to find another position at Google or will be provided with severance packages. Only in January Google cut 100 jobs in the personnel department. 40 people had to leave when the radio advertising department was closed. Google still has more than 20,000 employees globally.
