Opera 10 hits 10 million downloads - Competition for Firefox?
Only a week after its release the new Opera 10 has been downloaded 10 million times. This is the best start in the product's history.
According to Opera all in all up to 40 million people are supposed to use Opera, with additional 10 million that use the mobile version. Opera Software CEO Jon von Tetzchner says this is a novelty. Although the download numbers had been increasing constantly with the previous browser launches, Opera 10 has set a new record.
The CEO makes the new feature of Opera 10 for this development. It would help people who have a low bandwidth or just have to use low quality WLAN when they are on the move. In the new mode all data is rerouted to an Opera proxy server, which compensates slowdowns like big picture files by compressing them.
