Google slightly increases turnover in economic crisis
Google defies the economic crisis and can slightly increase its turnover at the end of the second quarter. Youtube is on the right path and the portfolio will be expanded.
Google is afflicted with the economic crisis, too. That's because the internet giant depends on the advertising and media industry. However, Google can register a slight turnover gain. For the first time in company history Google had to accept a downturn in the first quarter but analysts believed in the company and have not been disappointed. Google gained a growth in sales of 3 percent and 5.52 billion USD - 5.5 billion USD were estimated. That means a net profit of 1.48 billion USD. In the year-ago quarter the turnover was 1.25 billion USD.
Especially interesting are the paid clicks on advertisements. Here Google lags behind the figures of last year but still achieves an increase of 15 percent after all which Google CEO Eric Schmidt considers as stabilization. In the first quarter 2009 the growth was 2 percent higher. To what extent Microsoft's startup Bing affects the Google figures remains to be seen.
Eric Schmidt also praised Youtube which is on the right way thanks to the graphic commercials. Google wants to strengthen its position with Chrome OS and an online Office version. At least 20 smartphones with Andorid are planned to be established by end of year.
