Google also affected by layoffs?
According to a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission the Google staff seems to be cut by 5,700 jobs. Further details have still not been revealed.
A filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission indicates that it's the first time in Google's history that the company will undertake personnel cutbacks. 5,700 positions are supposed to be affected - mostly contractors and temporary workers.
Last October Google co-founder Sergey Brin let people know that Google had 24,400 employees. 10,000 of these were temporary workers and contractors. In the current filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission only 4,300 temporary workers and contractors are mentioned. Google spokeswoman Jane Penner however said that the difference between the two figures does not mean a cutback of 5,700 jobs. Though Jane Penner did not reveal how many employees will be dismissed.
The filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission apparently dates 15th December. The news agency AP obtained a copy of the paper.
