GTA 4 (PC): Patch under way
According to developer Rockstar Toronto a patch for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV is on its way. It is supposed to become available during the next days and solve several known problems like the start-up issue or the shadow visualization. The performance of GTA 4 (PC) is said to be adjusted, too.
In the gtaforums a developer of the technical support at Rockstar Toronto gave details about the patch. In advance it is recommended to install the Geforce Beta 180.84 driver, which is said to increase the performance and solve a shadow bug on Geforce 7 cards. On December 10 the new Catalyst 8.12 WHQL will be released, too. In a quick test we noticed, that the possibility to get GTA 4 running on a Radeon graphics card is drastically increased with this driver.
Since GTA 4 (PC) is a Games for Windows Live game, the patch has to be certified by Microsoft. But since the update is in Redmond already, it should become available someday soon. There are several fixes that are included in the update of GTA 4:
-A fix to the crash after legal screen that some German customers were reporting.
-Numerous improvements to the video editor: Smarter naming of videos, improved rendering quality, better fx during replays
-Fix to bowling while using certain sensitive mice
-Fix for ATI 1900 shadows
-Overall savings to memory
-Graphic improvements to particle systems and mirrors
-Multiplayer character settings are preserved
-Support for DirectInput controllers. Note: The current hack way of supporting these controllers may not work with the improved functionality. So we recommend you remove the hack before upgrading to the patch.
Furthermore the developers are working on the problems of the RGSC (Rockstar Game Social Club). Rockstar asks the users to post their problems with GTA 4 in the gtaforums in order to get enough feedback for further bug fixing. We will inform you as soon as the patch will be available.
