Geforce 185.63 Beta: Nvidia graphics driver reviewed
For the launch of the Geforce GTX 275 Nvidia delivers the new 185 driver series. PC Games Hardware reviews the first official version the Geforce 185.63 Beta.
In January the first Alpha version of the 185 driver was leaked to the Internet. Besides performance improvements the Geforce 185.63 Beta delivers a new feature, too: Ambient Occlusion - which is not available for Windows XP but Windows Vista and Windows 7 only.
The brand new driver reached our office during the test phase of the Geforce GTX 275. To be as up-to-date as possible we have redone all benchmarks with the Geforce 185.63. The results we got from our benchmarks with the Geforce 182.46 Beta shouldn't have been collected in vain so we assembled a driver comparison with five current Geforce graphics cards.
Geforce 185.63: Performance
The new Geforce driver delivers a performance benefit in almost any game we tested. This benefit varies in size and in Grand Theft Auto 4 even drops to slight disadvantage. Crysis Warhead on the other hand runs up to 22 percent faster (on a GTX 285). Skeptical as we are, we took a closer look at the visual quality, too. The result: Except for dynamic objects the quality of textures and Shaders does not differ.
According to Nvidia the Geforce 185.63 Beta will become available soon. See the benchmarks on the next page.
