Radeon HD 4870 X2 to be launched at 549 US-Dollar
After the recent report on AMD planning to release a Radeon HD 4850 X2 with 2GiBate video memory, it now seems like AMD is going to come up with the Radeon HD 4870 X2 with 2 GiByte in August.
According to the rumor king Fuad Abazovic, AMD will release the successor of the HD 3870 X2 to the markets in August. The graphics chip with the codename R700 will beat the performance of a Geforce GTX 280 (according to an AMD employee). Now one just has to wait for the customers to pay 549 US-Dollar - in the meantime the GTX 280 dropped to about $499.
Another interesting feature is the RAM equipment. The HD 4870 X2s will have, despite the shortness of GDDR5, two GiByte of the valuable memory. But even if AMD - after a long time - wins back the performance crown, Nvidia is said to have the 55 nm version of the GT200 ready to reconquer the place in the sun.
