For preparing the launch of the RV870 AMD will cut prices for RV790 graphics cards in July. So the Radeon HD 4890, HD 4870 and HD 4850 will be available at a lower price.
AMD is planning price reductions for the RV790 models within the introduction of the RV870. So the graphics cards of the HD 4800 series will be available at a lower price then. The price cuts are said to start next month already. The Radeon HD 4890 will then be available for 199 US dollar, the Radeon HD 4870 will cost 149 USD and the price of the Radeon HD 4850 will go below 99 USD.
In the meantime AMD is intensely working on the successor RV870 which is said to support DirectX 11 and will probably be launched as Radeon HD 5870/5850.
