Radeon HD 4900 series said to come in first half of 2009
An AMD employee is said to have commented on the Radeon HD 4900 and Radeon HD 5800.
Currently the RV770 chips are produced in 55 nanometers.
The Inquirer wants to have learned from AMD's Chris Hook that no new AMD graphics cards will be released in January. But it would be possible that a middle-class chip RV740 and a "supped-up” version of the RV770 might be launched in the time around Cebit 2009.
Furthermore AMD has decided against the use of GDDR4 again, because the memory chips are too expensive compared to the faster GDDR5. The first 40 nanometer CPUs are expected in the first half of 2009.
The DX11 compatible Radeon HD 5800 series is expected for Q4 2009. The Inquirer estimates the launch close to the release of DirectX 11. Technical details of the Radeon HD 5800 are not available yet.
