Nvidia Geforce GTX 285 with 10% better performance than GTX 280?
According to information that surfaced in the Chinese Chiphell forum indicates that Nvidia's Geforce GTX 285 is about 10 percent faster than the current GTX 280.
The clockspeeds are 650 MHz for the chip and 1,242 MHz for the memory. The retail price is said to be 399 US-Dollars, while the also mentioned GTX 295 is said to cost 499 US-Dollars. If the recommended retail price of $399 is correct, the GTX 285 will cost about as much as the current GTX 280 - at least if the exchange rates stay on the same level.
The TDP of supposed 183 watts is noticeably below the GTX 280. Here it seems like the 55 nanometer structure can fully utilize its features by delivering higher clock speeds at lower temperatures.
In the Chiphell forum Chinese transparencies, which the rumors are based on, have been published. As long as Nvidia doesn't introduce the card officially it cannot really be estimated if the performance benefit will be as big as it is supposed to be.
